Screen Shots
Screen shots of v2.1
Check this out! This screen shot is from SpaceMonger 2.1 running under Wine on Linux.
Astoundingly, it actually runs mostly correctly, save for a few color glitches
and clipping glitches. However... it runs very slowly (1/10 normal speed at best),
and can't understand Un*x-style mount points, so I wouldn't recommend it for production use.
But even so... it runs, and doesn't crash!
Versions: Base distribution Red Hat 9/Shrike. Wine 20050310. Linux kernel 2.4.20.
X is XFree86 4.3.0. GCC 3.2.2. SpaceMonger 2.1 build 1206. |

This screen shot is from SpaceMonger 2.1, build 1206, and it shows SM's
native support for foreign languages --- really foreign languages,
in this case, Chinese (CN). The Chinese translation file is only a partial
file, but you can already see the effect. This also shows the color-configuration
section of the Setup dialog box. |

This screen shot is from SpaceMonger 2.1, build 1052, and it shows off
the finished "Statistics" tab. The mouse cursor was drawn onto the
screen shot after taking it so that you can see where it was (otherwise
the info tip wouldn't make much sense). |

|
This screen shot is from SpaceMonger 2.1, build 1049, and it shows off
the heretofore unseen "Statistics" tab, which has been in there for over
a year but which I've never bothered to take a screen shot of before.
You can see the histogram, the disk details, and the (rudimentary) pie
chart. On the left you can see the recently-completed "Recent Locations"
tab as well. Note the interesting logarithmic organization of the files
on this disk: That has been true on every disk I've tested, which is
probably an interesting enough fact to generate a good research paper
on. |

This screen shot is from SpaceMonger 2.1, build 1034, and it demonstrates
the "find bar" in action. This user has requested "advanced regex" mode,
and is searching for all JPEG and GIF files on the disk that start with
the letter "p", and are between 1 and 10 kb in size, and were created or
last modified some time during calendar year 2003. Out of the 66,465 files
on drive C:, there were 13 files that matched those criteria, and the
search took approximately one half of a second. Nice and fast. |

This screen shot is from SpaceMonger 2.1, build 1001. The fonts are
set to Japanese to show off its Unicode abilities. Not much has visibly
changed since the previous photo (below), but the internals have much more
cool froodiness to
them now. |

This screen shot is from SpaceMonger 2.1. It shows the program running
on a Windows 2000 system. Some of what you see in this photo has changed
since the photo was taken, about six months before the most recent photo
(below).

This screen shot is from SpaceMonger 2.1. It shows off all the options
in the program's "Setup" dialog box. Some of what you see in this photo
has changed since the photo was taken, about three months before the most
recent photo (below). (To view this photo, your browser needs to be able
to display PNG images: either IE 5 or higher, or Netscape 6 or higher.)

This is the most recent screen shot from SpaceMonger 2.1. It shows off
the font-picker and the new (more-comprehensible) selection tabs across
the top and down the left side. This was taken of the latest build of
SM 2.1, on August 10, 2003.

Screen shots of v2.0
Because v2.1 has a user-interface that is very similar to that of v2.0,
screen-shots of v2.0 can be very interesting to look at as well.
|
This screen shot is from SpaceMonger 2.0. It shows the program in a more
typical environment than the one below, displaying the same disk as the
screen shots of v2.1 above.

This screen shot is from SpaceMonger 2.0, midway through its development.
It's the version that I had on my web site for some time. It shows
a lot of the basics, such as zooming and panning, and the left-side bar
and the various top tabs.

 |
Pre-v2.0 screen shots
These are included purely for historical reasons.
|
This screen shot is from SpaceMonger 1.0.2, the earliest version that
I still have copies of. You can see it handles the basics, but several
of the more prominent features are missing (like the "Setup" button),
and a lot of the niceties are missing too (like double-clicking on
folders or files). It didn't display anything except this main window:
no scanning-progress dialog box, no popups, nothing. You had to
sit with an hourglass while you waited for the scan to finish.

 |
|
This is the one everybody knows: SpaceMonger 1.4.0. This has all
the features you know and love, as well as minimal support for foreign
languages (French, albeit very badly translated). It's got rollovers,
popups, and various other goodies that appeared over the several versions
in between.
